Termites in Southeast Tennessee
The termite most homeowners here deal with is the eastern subterranean termite. These termites live in the soil and travel into homes through mud tubes on foundations, piers and walls. They feed on wood from the inside out, so damage often stays hidden until it's serious. Swarms of winged termites usually appear on warm days in spring, often after a rain.
Signs of termites
- Swarms of small winged insects indoors in spring
- Piles of discarded wings near windows and doors
- Pencil-width mud tubes on foundation walls or piers
- Wood that sounds hollow when tapped
- Bubbling or peeling paint, or sagging floors
- Tight-fitting doors and windows that weren't before
Our termite service
We inspect the foundation, crawlspace, basement, garage and other areas where termites get in. If we find activity, we'll show you, explain your treatment options, and recommend a plan. We also point out conditions that invite termites, like wood touching soil or moisture problems, so you can fix them.
Lower your termite risk
- Keep firewood and lumber off the ground and away from the house
- Keep soil and mulch from touching wood siding
- Direct gutters and downspouts away from the foundation
- Repair leaks and improve crawlspace ventilation
- Schedule a termite inspection every year
